Power of Love

“We must shock this nation with the power of love,”

– Reverend William Barber II.

Forget right vs left. It’s time to worry about right vs wrong.

I haven’t posted anything on the debacle going on to the south of us. In fact, despite who I am and what I do, I post very little about politics online. I have friends and family from all sides of the political spectrum and have no desire to enter into angry and polarizing political debates on Facebook. I’d rather see the first day of school photos, or hear about family vacations, or laugh with my kid at Buzzfeed.

But last night, I sat down with a glass of wine to toast Alberta’s most cherished weekend, and skimmed Twitter while I waited for my peeps. My twitter feed used to be all politics, but now it’s a mixture of news, creative inspirations and, yep, celebrities cuz really kids, there’s more to life than politics. (Tip: follow Ryan Reynolds @VanCityReynolds. Seriously funny.)

So as I scrolled the twitterati, I came across the most politically stirring video I’ve seen in some time, courtesy of the lovely Mark Ruffalo. (Tip: the movie ‘Begin Again’.)

Ruffalo posts this link to The Nation:

“Americans Who’d Never Heard of Reverend William Barber II Won’t Be Able to Forget Him After Last Night: His remarkable speech at the DNC put racial, social, and economic justice at the center of the 2016 campaign.”

Curious, I clicked through and watched this incredible speech:

“There are some issues that are not left versus right, liberal versus conservative, they are right versus wrong. We need to embrace our deepest moral values and push for a revival of the heart of our democracy.”

I hope we can remember right from wrong here in Canada as we work through next phases of Alberta and Canadian politics. We can be on different teams or sides or spectrums, but we can be on the same side of right vs. wrong.

We can also remember the power of the heart, of emotion, of connecting.

Happy August long friends! Enjoy the weekend and post those amazing photos of love and laughter while you’re at it.

With gratitude,
